TÜRK-İŞ April 2025 Hunger and Poverty Line: Workers Are Becoming Even Poorer!

📢 TÜRK-İŞ Confederation has released the hunger and poverty thresholds for April 2025, highlighting the severe financial struggles workers face due to high inflation, rising food prices, and ongoing economic crises.

📅 Current figures:
🔹 Hunger line for a family of four: 24,035 TL
🔹 Poverty line: 78,292 TL
🔹 Living cost for a single worker: 31,142 TL

📈 Food Inflation:
✅ Monthly increase: 1.78%
✅ 12-month change: 35.60%
✅ Annual average increase: 51.58%

🛑 The Cost of Living Is Hurting Workers!

According to TÜRK-İŞ’s monthly calculations, a family of four must spend 420 TL more on food just to maintain a balanced and healthy diet compared to the previous month.

Before the first half of the year has ended, households have had to bear an additional 1,904 TL burden for kitchen expenses.

 

Inflation and Wage Policy: Workers Must Earn More!

📌 Turkey’s wage policy should not be determined solely by inflation rates!
📢 TÜRK-İŞ emphasizes that wage increases based solely on inflation are inadequate. The union calls for a broad improvement in income policies, ensuring that wages align proportionally with living costs.

🔴 Minimum Wage Is Insufficient!

In Turkey, household incomes are often reliant on a single earner, making living conditions even more challenging for workers.

📢 "A minimum wage that does not meet a worker’s basic needs cannot support an entire family!"

✔ Rising food prices must be controlled!

✔ Food expenses increased by 1.78% compared to the previous month
✔ 12-month food inflation reached 35.60%
✔ Annual average increase hit 51.58%

🔹 As the prices of essential goods and food items continue to rise rapidly, wage increases remain insufficient, forcing workers into greater debt!

📌 In Turkey, the hunger line has surpassed the minimum wage, making survival increasingly difficult for workers.
