TÜRK-İŞ June 2025 Hunger and Poverty Line Report: Living Conditions Worsen

Ankara – The results of the June 2025 research by the TÜRK-İŞ Confederation, conducted regularly each month to reveal the living conditions of employees and determine the impact of price changes in basic necessities on family budgets, have been announced. According to the report, the hunger line for a four-person family rose to 26,115 TL, and the poverty line increased to 85,066 TL.

Hunger and Poverty Lines Reach Record Highs for Four-Person Families

As of June 2025, the monthly food expenditure required for a four-person family residing in Ankara to have a healthy, balanced, and adequate diet (hunger line) was determined as 26,115.18 TL.

The total amount of food expenditure combined with other essential monthly expenses for needs such as clothing, housing (rent, electricity, water, fuel), transportation, education, health, and similar items (poverty line) reached 85,065.75 TL. These figures once again highlight how significantly the minimum income required for families to live humanely has increased.

Living Cost for a Single Employee Far Exceeds Minimum Wage

The monthly living cost for a single employee was calculated as 33,586.82 TL. Another striking data point in the report is that a single employee's living cost of 33,586 TL is 11,482 TL more than the current minimum wage. This situation reveals the significant difficulties faced by millions of minimum wage earners in sustaining their lives.

"Kitchen Inflation" Data Raises Concerns

According to TÜRK-İŞ data, the changes in "kitchen inflation" as of June 2025 occurred as follows:

• The increase in the minimum food expenditure for a four-person family living in Ankara was 4.08 percent compared to the previous month.

• The twelve-month change rate was 37.60 percent.

• The annual average increase was recorded as 44.58 percent.

• The change rate in the first six months of the year was 23.87 percent.

These figures indicate that the increase in consumer spending, especially on basic food items, continues unabated, intensifying the inflationary pressure, particularly on low-income segments of society.

The TÜRK-İŞ report once again emphasized that wage and salary adjustments are insufficient in the face of this high inflation and rising cost of living, and that the purchasing power of employees is eroding day by day.
