Karabük – Fatal High-Voltage Incident During Asphalting

A tragic incident occurred in the İsmetpaşa neighborhood of Yenice district, Karabük, during asphalt renovation work in the morning. The incident, labeled a "workplace murder" due to insufficient safety precautions, highlighted the persistent risks in Turkey's labor sector.

According to the available information, the dump bed of a truck used for asphalt paving came into contact with high-voltage overhead power lines during a maneuver. Servet Kayaoğlu (37) and Yasin Ö., who were on the dump bed, were immediately electrocuted and fell to the ground.

Other workers and bystanders quickly called the 112 Emergency Call Center. Police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene immediately.

 

💔 Servet Kayaoğlu Could Not Be Saved

The injured workers were rushed to Yenice State Hospital. Despite all efforts by the doctors, Servet Kayaoğlu passed away. His death has caused deep sorrow for his family and colleagues.

Yasin Ö., who was severely injured, was transferred to Karabük Training and Research Hospital after initial treatment. While his exact condition is unclear, his treatment is ongoing.

The Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident. The probe aims to determine the exact cause of the accident and whether negligence was involved. The truck driver, identified as E.A., has been taken into custody. The investigation is focusing intensely on the adequacy of workplace safety measures and employer accountability.
