Tragedy in Gülnar, Mersin: Minibus Carrying Agricultural Workers Collides with Car; 3 Dead, 12 Injured

The Gülnar district of Mersin was shaken by a horrific traffic accident early this morning involving a minibus transporting agricultural workers and a passenger car. The collision, which took place near the Demirözü neighbourhood, resulted in the tragic death of three occupants of the car, despite all medical efforts at the scene and in the hospital. Additionally, twelve agricultural workers travelling in the minibus were injured. A comprehensive investigation into the incident has been launched by authorities.

 

Fatal Collision Details

The accident occurred on the route heading towards the Demirözü neighbourhood in the Gülnar district. According to initial reports, the minibus, driven by Avni Altınyazar and carrying seasonal agricultural workers, collided with a car driven by Mustafa Cin for reasons yet to be determined. The force of the impact caused extensive damage to both vehicles.

Following the immediate notification by bystanders, a large number of gendarmerie, fire, and medical teams were rapidly dispatched to the accident scene. The area was quickly turned into a rescue operation zone as teams worked swiftly to provide assistance.

 

Three Casualties Confirmed, Twelve Workers Injured

Medical teams conducting the initial examination at the crash site determined that Hasan Cin, a passenger in the car, had tragically lost his life at the scene.

Those injured included the car driver Mustafa Cin and passenger Mehmet Perçemli, along with 12 agricultural workers from the minibus. The injured were swiftly given first aid by emergency crews and rushed to Gülnar State Hospital.

Despite intensive efforts at the hospital, the injured occupants of the car, Mustafa Cin and Mehmet Perçemli, also succumbed to their injuries, raising the death toll to three. The treatment of the 12 agricultural workers continues at Gülnar State Hospital. Reports indicate that the health status of the injured workers is stable and they are not in life-threatening condition.

 

Gendarmerie Launches Investigation

Gendarmerie teams, establishing a wide security perimeter at the accident site, immediately began a detailed investigation. Factors such as the cause of the collision between the minibus and the car, speed limits, and road conditions are being meticulously examined. The ongoing investigation aims to determine the precise cause of the traffic accident, and eyewitness testimonies are being collected.

The fact that the agricultural workers were on their way to the fields for seasonal labour when the accident occurred has caused profound sorrow among the local community. The tragic event once again brings into focus the critical issue of transportation safety for workers in the agricultural sector.
