KESK Commemorates 32nd Anniversary of Sivas Massacre with a Call for Struggle
KESK participated in the 32nd-anniversary commemoration of the Sivas Massacre, stating "The light of Sivas will not go out!" KESK demanded that the real perpetrators be judged and the Madımak Hotel be turned into a museum of shame.
Sivas – The Confederation of Public Employees' Trade Unions (KESK) actively participated in the commemoration ceremony held in Sivas on the 32nd anniversary of the Sivas Massacre, which occurred on July 2, 1993. KESK Co-Chair Ahmet Karagöz, General Secretary Sevgi Yılmaz, Branch Executive Board Members, and representatives from the Sivas Branches Platform gathered to honor those who lost their lives and reiterate their demands for justice.
In the statement made during the commemoration event, it was emphasized that the pain of the Sivas Massacre remains fresh and that justice has not yet been fully served. KESK, with the slogan "The light of Sivas has not gone out, it never will!", underlined that the massacre will not be forgotten.
The Confederation once again reiterated its determined stance on bringing the perpetrators of the massacre to justice and transforming the Madımak Hotel into a "museum of shame." The statement declared: "We will continue our struggle until Sivas's account is settled, the real perpetrators are judged, and the Madımak Hotel is transformed into a 'museum of shame.'"
On the 32nd anniversary of the Sivas Massacre, KESK respectfully commemorated the lives lost and vowed that the account of all massacres would be settled by establishing a country of peace, brotherhood, and labor. The union conveyed the message that the pursuit of justice and the struggle for social peace would continue. This commemoration strongly reiterated the call for the crime against humanity committed in Sivas never to be repeated and for those responsible to be held accountable.
