At Hapimag Resort Sea Garden Hotel in Bodrum, Muğla, the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) process that began on January 26 came to a deadlock after no progress was made. TOLEYİS (The Turkish Hotel, Restaurant and Leisure Places Workers’ Union), which has been organized at the hotel for 30 years and has signed 15 collective agreements so far, stated that the employer refused to return to the negotiating table despite repeated calls.

The union also claimed that employees were being pressured to resign from the union while the legal process was ongoing, describing this as an interference with the constitutional right to freedom of unionization.

During an information meeting attended by TOLEYİS Deputy Chair Cemalettin Kelten, Türk-İş Aegean Regional Chair Hayrettin Çakmak, and Marmaris Branch Chair Ersin Sancaklı, it was officially announced that approximately 373 workers would begin the strike on Friday morning. The action has been described as the first strike in Bodrum’s tourism sector and is expected to set an important precedent for labor relations in the region.

Workers emphasized that the strike is not only about wages and working conditions, but also about defending union rights and preserving decades of industrial peace that has now come to an end.
