The incident took place at the emergency department of a hospital, where healthcare workers were subjected to violence while performing their duties. According to reports, the assailants physically attacked a healthcare employee following a dispute in the emergency unit.

The assaulted healthcare worker stated that after the attack, the perpetrators attempted to intimidate staff further by saying, “We are AK Party supporters,” which was perceived as a political threat. The incident sparked strong reactions among healthcare unions and professional organizations, particularly as it occurred shortly before May 12, International Nurses Day. 

Healthcare workers and union representatives emphasized that violence in healthcare institutions has become increasingly widespread and that existing legal measures remain insufficient to protect medical staff. They called for stronger sanctions against perpetrators of violence in healthcare settings and demanded safer working environments for all healthcare professionals.

The incident once again reignited public debate over violence against healthcare workers in Türkiye, with many emphasizing that attacks on medical personnel threaten not only workers’ safety but also the functioning of public health services.
