Izmir – A forest fire that broke out in the Seferihisar district of İzmir spread to the 345-house Doğankent Site, a residential complex with summer homes. The site was completely evacuated due to the blaze, leaving many houses unusable. Firefighting efforts are ongoing.

The forest fire, which started near Doğanbey Neighborhood in Seferihisar, rapidly spread due to strong winds. As the flames reached Doğankent Site during the night, an evacuation decision was made. The entire site, comprising 345 residences, was emptied with the support of fire and forestry teams.

Numerous Residences and Vehicles Damaged

Teams from the İzmir Regional Directorate of Forestry and İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department intervened to combat the blaze. Initial assessments revealed that many houses within the site were burned and damaged, and two vehicles also sustained damage. Cooling efforts by the teams continued until morning. Site residents returned to the area at daybreak to inspect the condition of their homes.

"We tried to save it but it wasn't possible"

Görkem Yarıcı, who came to the area with his wife to help with extinguishing efforts during the fire, stated, "We tried to intervene with pickaxes and shovels. Electricity and water were cut. Firefighters did their best, but some houses could not be saved."

"May God not let anyone experience this"

Efe Can Özdemir, whose father was evacuated and rescued from their home during the fire, said, "Our house was not damaged, but some of our neighbors lost their homes. There was a fire in 2009 too, but this one was much more intense."

Site Captured from the Air

The current state of the Doğankent Site, which was damaged in the fire, was captured from the air by a drone. The footage clearly showed the extent of the devastation caused by the fire.
