TRABZON – In a tragic workplace accident that occurred yesterday (May 27, 2025) in Düzköy district of Trabzon, 33-year-old forest worker Ünal Kalıntaş lost his life after falling approximately 20 meters down a cliff along with a tree log while working. The death of the young worker caused great sorrow in the region and once again brought to the forefront the risks associated with working conditions in forested areas.
The incident took place during the routine work hours of forest workers engaged in tree felling and transportation in the steep and rugged terrain of Düzköy district. According to information obtained, Ünal Kalıntaş, 33, lost control while transporting cut tree logs and plunged down a cliff, approximately 20 meters high. The unfortunate worker was dragged along with the log and died at the scene.
Following the accident, health and gendarmerie teams dispatched to the area undertook efforts in challenging terrain to reach Ünal Kalıntaş's lifeless body. After initial examinations, Kalıntaş's body was transferred to the Forensic Medicine Institute for autopsy.
The news of Ünal Kalıntaş's death, who was married and had children, plunged his family, relatives, and the residents of Düzköy into deep mourning. This painful loss at a young age painfully underscored the high risks inherent in forest work and the vital importance of occupational safety measures in this profession.
A comprehensive investigation into the incident has been launched, and efforts to determine the exact cause of the accident are ongoing.
