INTERNATIONAL NEWS > Horrific Workplace Homicide in Hatay: 17-Year-Old Worker Fatma Şanverdi Dies After Service Crash

HATAY – Fatma Şanverdi, a 17-year-old worker who was seriously injured when the service minibus transporting workers from a vegetable packaging facility collided with a tractor in Reyhanlı, Hatay, has lost her one-week battle for life. The death of Şanverdi, who was working at a young age, has once again brought service accidents to the agenda as a "workplace homicide".

The accident occurred on the evening of October 19, near the Beşaslan neighborhood on the Reyhanlı-Antakya road. A total of 14 workers, including Fatma Şanverdi, were injured in the tragic crash.

Fatma Şanverdi, who was in the most critical condition among the injured, was urgently transferred to Antakya State Hospital and placed in intensive care. However, despite all the efforts of doctors, the young worker could not be saved.

Lost Her Life at 17

The fact that Fatma Şanverdi, who worked in the agriculture and packaging sector, was only 17 years old, highlights the negligence concerning child labor and the safety of worker transportation. Worker Health and Safety (İSİG) activists stated that the death of a young worker while commuting is unacceptable and called on authorities to increase inspections.

The investigation into the accident is still ongoing.
