The incident took place at the construction site of Balveren Primary School in the town of Balveren. Murat Bektaş, a 32-year-old civil engineer working on the project, had entered a trench approximately two meters deep, which had been excavated for a sewage drainage system, in order to carry out measurements.

While he was conducting level measurements inside the trench, a mass of soil suddenly collapsed from above, burying him underneath.

Colleagues and nearby workers rushed to the scene and managed to him from under the debris. He was immediately transported to Şırnak State Hospital with severe injuries. However, despite all medical interventions, he could not be saved and was pronounced dead.

The incident, which has been described as a workplace fatality, has reignited concerns over safety measures at construction sites. Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collapse.
