An explosion due to sudden gas discharge at a TPIC drilling well on the Diyarbakır-Batman highway injured 7 workers, including 4 union members. Petrol-İş Union is closely monitoring the situation and demanding a thorough investigation into the occupational safety lapse.
Diyarbakır/Batman – A significant explosion occurred early this morning at the Üçtepe-1 drilling well, operated by Turkish Petroleum International Company (TPIC), located on the Diyarbakır-Batman highway. According to a statement from the Petrol-İş Union, the explosion, believed to be caused by a sudden gas discharge, resulted in 7 injured workers, including 4 union members. This unfortunate incident once again highlights the critical importance of occupational safety in the energy sector.
Emergency teams swiftly arrived at the scene following the explosion, providing immediate first aid to the injured workers. The injured were then quickly transported to hospitals in Batman and Diyarbakır for treatment. The fire that erupted at the facility after the explosion was brought under control through the intense efforts of firefighting and security teams. Cooling and safety operations are currently ongoing at the site.
Upon learning of the explosion, the Petrol-İş Union promptly mobilized. The Batman Branch Executives of the union immediately went to the scene to gather detailed information regarding the cause of the explosion and began closely monitoring the condition of the injured. Union officials stated that all necessary steps would be taken to ensure the health and safety of their members and all employees.
In an official statement, Petrol-İş Union conveyed, "We wish a speedy recovery to our injured colleagues and extend our condolences to all our members." The union is demanding a detailed investigation into the causes of the explosion and the implementation of all necessary measures to prevent similar incidents from recurring. A formal investigation into the incident is also expected to be launched.
