The Labor Party (EMEP) issued a statement on May 8, calling for resistance against what it described as “imperialist-fascist aggression” and emphasizing the significance of May 8 as Victory Day Against Fascism.

In the statement, EMEP recalled the defeat of Hitler’s fascism by the Soviet Army 81 years ago and stressed that May 8 has since become a symbol of anti-fascist struggle for the international working class and oppressed peoples. The party argued that the current global climate is once again marked by wars driven by imperialist rivalries, increasing militarization, and the rise of authoritarian and fascist practices in many parts of the world.

The statement criticized ongoing wars and interventions, particularly referring to conflicts involving the United States, Israel, Ukraine, and the Middle East. EMEP argued that imperialist powers continue to deepen global instability while military expenditures rise at the expense of workers and impoverished populations. The party also condemned NATO and called for stronger international opposition to war policies and military alliances.

EMEP further claimed that the Turkish government has deepened the country’s dependence on imperialist powers through its political and economic policies. According to the statement, growing authoritarianism, anti-democratic practices, and worsening living conditions for workers are directly linked to these policies. The party emphasized that workers and oppressed people must unite against exploitation, fascism, imperialist wars, and economic injustice.

The statement concluded with a call to strengthen the struggle against imperialism and fascism, oppose NATO’s planned summit and military strategies, and build a broader movement for peace, democracy, labor rights, and social justice. EMEP declared May 8 not only a historical commemoration, but also a contemporary day of resistance against war and oppression.
