Memur-Sen Takes Critical Step for Global Labor Movement: Global and Regional Issues Discussed at ILC Meeting

ANKARA – The International Labour Confederation (ILC), of which Memur-Sen is a founding and one of the most active members, convened with the mission of strengthening the global labor movement and addressing the current issues facing workers and laborers worldwide. The online meeting, chaired by Memur-Sen and ILC President Ali Yalçın, and attended by representatives from 33 union confederations across 25 countries, once again highlighted the importance of international solidarity and collective wisdom.

In his opening speech, President Ali Yalçın drew attention to the pressure that global conflicts and geopolitical tensions exert on the labor movement. "We see the ILC as a vital force for the labor movement to stand together and raise a collective voice in the face of global problems," he said, emphasizing that union solidarity is not just a part of economic struggle, but also a part of the fight for peace and justice. Yalçın stated that humanitarian crises, such as the breaking of the Gaza blockade, should be a primary concern for the entire labor movement.

The board meeting also covered regional and local issues in detail, in addition to global conflicts. Current information was shared by member confederations regarding situations in hot spots like the Iran-Israel tension, conflicts on the Cambodia-Thailand border, and ongoing labor actions in Indonesia. Furthermore, representatives from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Thailand, Portugal, and Indonesia shared their valuable experiences regarding social dialogue processes and union activities to combat economic hardships in their own countries. These exchanges demonstrate that the ILC is building a network of knowledge and experience for workers in different parts of the world.

Speaking at the meeting, Memur-Sen Vice President and ILC Secretary General Hamza Öksüz outlined the confederation's roadmap for the future. "Every step the ILC takes will be shaped by the collective wisdom of our member confederations and the decisions of the board," he said, emphasizing transparency and cooperation. Öksüz also provided information on upcoming international programs, regional meetings, and training activities, stating that the ILC will take a more active role on the international stage in the future.

At the conclusion of the meeting, all participants expressed a shared resolve to further grow the labor movement in line with the principles of "rights, justice, and solidarity." The ILC once again affirmed that it will continue to be the voice of workers in different parts of the world and will take a united stand against global problems.
