Regulation on Post-Childbirth Part-Time Work to Be Published: A Family-Friendly Arrangement for Public Employees
Speaking after the Cabinet Meeting, President Erdoğan stated that this regulation will enable parents to spend more time on their children's development and strengthen family bonds. "With the regulation to be published tonight, civil servants will be able to work part-time from birth until their children start primary school," Erdoğan announced to the public.
This development, a right long-demanded by public employees, was welcomed by the unions.
Büro Memur-Sen President Yusuf Yazgan said in a statement, "Our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has announced that a regulation will be issued for the part-time work gain we achieved for public employees. As Büro Memur-Sen, we filed and won numerous lawsuits due to the problems in the implementation of this right, and we wrote to many institutions, including the Presidency, to ensure uniformity in application. Now, this gain is secured with a regulation. We thank our President, and everyone who contributed to this important and valuable step, and we wish the decision to be beneficial for all public employees."
Memur-Sen and Eğitim-Bir-Sen President Ali Yalçın also stated, "It is valuable that this regulation, which we have kept on the agenda for a long time and deemed necessary for work-family harmony, is coming to life. We consider this step, which crowns the 'Year of the Family,' important on behalf of public employees."
Unions emphasized that with the regulation's entry into force, the bureaucratic obstacles encountered in its application will be eliminated, and public employees will be able to spend more time with their children.
