Ragıp Şahin, a 45-year-old Forest Directorate driver and father of two, died after sustaining 2nd-degree burns while battling a forest fire in İzmir's Ödemiş, where he was among the first responders.
Izmir – Ragıp Şahin (45), a driver for the Forest Directorate, who was severely injured with second-degree burns while battling a forest fire in İzmir's Ödemiş district, has succumbed to his injuries in the hospital where he was being treated. Şahin's passing has plunged his family, colleagues, and the entire region into grief.
According to information obtained, the incident occurred during a large forest fire in Ödemiş. Ragıp Şahin, who was assigned to the Beydağ Forest Management Chiefdom and was among the first responders to the fire, unexpectedly found himself caught in the midst of the flames while fighting the blaze. Şahin, who sustained second-degree burns on his body, was rushed to the hospital after initial intervention at the scene.
Despite two days of intensive treatment in the hospital, Şahin could not be saved and lost his fight for life. It was learned that 45-year-old Ragıp Şahin resided in the Çatak Neighborhood of Kiraz district and was a father of two.
Ragıp Şahin's self-sacrificing dedication while serving in forest fires and losing his life in the line of duty once again highlighted the difficult and risky working conditions faced by forest workers. Şahin's sudden loss caused great sorrow within the Forest Directorate community and the region where he served. Officials and colleagues extended their condolences to Şahin's family.
