Birleşik Metal-İş's Message on the 10th Anniversary of the Suruç Massacre

Ankara – Birleşik Metal-İş, one of Turkey's prominent labor organizations, has issued a commemorative message on the 10th anniversary of the massacre that took place on July 20, 2015, in Suruç, Şanlıurfa, claiming the lives of 33 young people. In its message, the union emphasized that they will keep the memory of the young "dream travelers" alive and reiterated their call for "justice for Suruç, justice for everyone!"

Pain Remains Fresh on the 10th Anniversary of the Suruç Massacre

The suicide attack that occurred on July 20, 2015, in front of the Amara Cultural Center in Suruç, Şanlıurfa, targeted members of the Socialist Youth Associations Federation (SGDF) who were on their way to help rebuild Kobanî. This incident has gone down in history as one of the most tragic events in Turkey's recent past. The 33 young people, most of them university students, lost their lives on a journey for peace and solidarity. The message from Birleşik Metal-İş shows that even 10 years after the tragic event, the pain and the demand for justice remain very much alive.

Labor Movement Emphasizes Justice

In its message shared on social media, Birleşik Metal-İş stated, "No dream will be left unfinished," showing their commitment to the dreams of peace and solidarity of the young people who were killed. The union's message, which included the phrases "We have not forgotten, we will not forget!" and "We want justice for Suruç, justice for everyone!", proves that labor and professional organizations are not limited to the working life but also struggle against social injustice and human rights violations.

The Working Class's Struggle for Social Memory and Justice

This commemorative message from Birleşik Metal-İş once again proves that the labor movement in Turkey has taken on the mission of keeping social memory alive and speaking out against injustice. In addition to protecting the rights of the working class, unions also create public awareness to ensure that the perpetrators of such tragic events do not go unpunished and that similar tragedies do not happen again. The message not only commemorates the 33 young people but also strengthens the demand for the underlying causes and those responsible for this atrocity to be brought to light.
