The Birleşik Metal-İş Union's Experts Board, chaired by General Secretary Ali Çeltek, met to prepare for the MESS Group Collective Bargaining Agreement and to address the current issues of the working class.
Istanbul – Birleşik Metal-İş, one of the most influential unions in Turkey's metal industry, convened its Experts Board to develop a roadmap for addressing the current issues of the working class and preparing for upcoming collective bargaining agreements. The critical meeting, chaired by General Secretary Ali Çeltek, focused particularly on the preparations for the MESS Group Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), which is of vital importance to metal workers.
Comprehensive Preparations for the MESS Group Collective Bargaining Agreement
The main agenda item of the meeting was the MESS Group CBA process, which will determine the working conditions and wages of tens of thousands of metal workers. The union's Experts Board engaged in a comprehensive exchange of information on topics such as setting union strategies, gathering workers' demands, and analyzing economic data. The meeting assessed the goals of protecting the purchasing power of metal workers against high inflation and the rising cost of living, and ensuring a dignified living wage. Furthermore, the necessary steps to reflect key demands like job security and the guarantee of union rights in the agreement were discussed.
Current Issues and Organizing Activities on the Agenda
The meeting not only covered collective bargaining but also comprehensively addressed broader issues on the working class agenda. Problems such as unemployment, job insecurity, and increasingly difficult working conditions were evaluated by the experts, and the union's potential stance against these challenges was debated. Birleşik Metal-İş's organizing activities aimed at strengthening its power were another important topic. Decisions were made to reinforce existing organized areas and accelerate unionization efforts in new workplaces.
A Roadmap for Union Struggle Has Been Developed
This meeting, chaired by General Secretary Ali Çeltek, serves as a roadmap for the union's struggle in the upcoming period. The outcomes of the meeting demonstrate that Birleşik Metal-İş is determined to defend the rights of metal workers not only at the bargaining table but also with its organized power on the ground. The meeting concluded with the slogan, "#LongLiveOurOrganizedStruggle," which emphasizes the power of union struggle.
