Turkish Health-Sen Condemns Violence in Healthcare: Security Guard Assaulted in Batman

BATMAN – Türk Sağlık-Sen (Turkish Health-Sen) has strongly condemned the assault on a security guard by patient relatives at Batman İluh State Hospital last night, which resulted in the guard's nose being broken. The union emphasized the urgent need for measures, including the establishment of a "zero-tolerance zone," to protect healthcare professionals from the cycle of violence. Türk Sağlık-Sen's Batman representative office visited the assaulted security guard and stated they would be following the legal process.

As incidents of violence against healthcare workers continue unabated in Turkey, Türk Sağlık-Sen has once again issued a statement drawing attention to the issue. The union vehemently condemned the heinous attack that occurred last night at Batman İluh State Hospital, where a security guard was assaulted by patient relatives, resulting in a broken nose.

Visit to Injured Security Guard and Legal Support

In a statement released by Türk Sağlık-Sen Headquarters, "get well soon wishes" were extended to the assaulted security guard. It was reported that immediately after the incident, Türk Sağlık-Sen's Batman Representative Office visited the security guard and is closely monitoring the legal process. This swift response demonstrates the union's commitment to supporting and showing solidarity with its members and all healthcare workers.

Emphasis on "Zero-Tolerance Zone"

Türk Sağlık-Sen reiterated the necessity of taking concrete steps to prevent the cycle of violence in healthcare. The statement declared, "To rescue healthcare workers from the spiral of violence, necessary steps must be taken, including our proposal for a zero-tolerance zone. Everyone must take responsibility in this regard." This proposal underscores the need for absolutely no tolerance for violence in all healthcare service areas and for the implementation of deterrent measures.

The union stressed that ensuring the safety of healthcare workers is vital for both the quality of service and public health. It noted that the increasing incidents of violence diminish the motivation of healthcare workers, negatively affect access to health services, and deepen existing problems within the healthcare system.

Societal Responsibility and Call for Urgent Action

Türk Sağlık-Sen emphasized that combating violence in healthcare requires not only legal regulations but also the development of societal awareness and a sense of responsibility. The union called upon political decision-makers, health authorities, the media, and all citizens to fulfill their responsibilities in this matter.

It was stated that effective and deterrent measures, increased security in healthcare institutions, and awareness campaigns targeting healthcare workers are essential steps to prevent such incidents from recurring.
