May 2025 inflation data released by TÜİK (1.53% monthly, 35.41% annually) and ENAG (3.66% monthly, 71.23% annually). Rent increase rates are set, and inflation differences for public servants and retirees are clarified.
ANKARA, Turkey – May's inflation figures have been released. According to TÜİK, inflation stood at 1.53% monthly and 35.41% annually. ENAG, however, announced the annual inflation at 71.23%. Consequently, the rent increase rate, determined by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), has also been clarified.
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) and the Inflation Research Group (ENAG) have publicly shared their inflation data for the May 2025 period. According to TÜİK's data, inflation in May was recorded as 1.53% on a monthly basis and 35.41% on an annual basis.
ENAG's data, conversely, showed a monthly inflation increase of 3.66%, with annual inflation reaching 71.23%. In April, annual inflation was calculated at 37.86% according to TÜİK and 73.88% according to ENAG.
Economists' inflation expectations for May were also compared with the announced data. The average forecast of 23 economists participating in the Anadolu Agency Finance's expectation survey was 2.10%, with expectations ranging between 1.80% and 2.75%. Had inflation materialized at this rate, annual inflation would have dropped to 36.17%.
Furthermore, public servants and retirees are closely watching the five-month inflation difference, which was clarified with the announced data. Within the scope of the 7th Collective Bargaining Agreement, public servants and civil servant retirees will receive an inflation difference in July, in addition to their collective bargaining raise. As of the end of April, this rate had exceeded 6.94%, and with the addition of the May data, the cumulative raise rate has approached 12.29%. SGK and Bağ-Kur retirees have already accrued an inflation difference of 13.36%.
Rent increase rates, calculated based on the CPI, have also been updated with these figures. The ceiling increase rate for tenants to be applied in June is expected to be around 65%.
In light of these economic developments, the raise rates and inflation differences to be applied in July remain among the most closely followed topics by the public.
