ANKARA – A horrific industrial accident occurred at the Pomega Energy Storage Technologies factory in Polatlı, Ankara, due to a nitrogen gas leak. Two workers (Berat Yıldız, Abdülkadir Kaya) lost their lives, while three workers were hospitalized for treatment. The Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation.

The gas leak at the Pomega Energy Storage Technologies factory, located in the Polatlı district of the capital Ankara, led to a major tragedy. In the incident at the lithium-ion battery production facility, two of the five workers who suffered nitrogen gas poisoning could not be saved despite all interventions, while three workers were taken for treatment. The Public Prosecutor's Office has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the incident.

Moments Leading to the Tragedy: Nitrogen Leak and a Call for Heroism

The incident took place in the cell furnace room of the Pomega Energy Storage Technologies factory, operating in the Polatlı Organized Industrial Zone (OSB). According to information obtained, two workers who entered the room in the morning to fix a malfunction in a nitrogen pipe were affected by the leaking gas and fainted. Other colleagues, realizing the situation, entered the same room with great sacrifice to rescue their co-workers. However, during the rescue efforts, three more workers were affected by the gas.

Upon notification, a large number of police, fire, and health teams were quickly dispatched to the scene. A total of five workers affected by the gas were given first aid by health personnel at the scene and immediately taken to Polatlı State Hospital.

Fatalities and Treatment Process

Despite all efforts by doctors, Berat Yıldız, born in 1994, and Abdülkadir Kaya, born in 2002, who were taken to the hospital, lost their lives. This tragic news deeply saddened the entire public. It was learned that the treatment of the other three workers affected by the gas is ongoing at Polatlı State Hospital, and their health conditions are being closely monitored.

Investigation Launched, Statement from OSB President

Pomega Energy Storage Technologies is known as Turkey's largest energy storage facility. Following this tragic incident, the Polatlı Public Prosecutor's Office immediately launched an investigation to clarify all aspects of the incident.

Erol Ünal, President of the Polatlı Organized Industrial Zone (OSB), also made a statement to the public regarding the tragedy. Ünal stated: "At our region's factory, POMEGA Energy, Berat Yıldız (born 1994) and Abdülkadir Kaya (born 2002), who were affected by nitrogen gas in the cell furnace room this morning, fainted at the scene and were taken to the hospital, but could not be saved despite all interventions. The other 3 workers affected by the gas were taken into treatment."

This unfortunate incident once again highlighted how vital occupational health and safety measures are in industrial facilities. With the completion of the investigation, detailed information about the exact cause of the tragedy and those responsible is expected to be revealed.
