Istanbul – Metalworkers have thrown their full weight behind health and social service workers affiliated with Dev Sağlık-İş, who have embarked on a march from Istanbul to Ankara to demand their fair wages, extending solidarity to all public sector employees. The Birleşik Metal-İş (United Metal Workers Union), led by DİSK Vice President and its own President Özkan Atar, along with branch executives, members, and experts, participated in the press statement organized by the DİSK-affiliated Dev Sağlık-İş Union in front of Taksim Training and Research Hospital, conveying a strong message of solidarity.
Dev Sağlık-İş Commences March, Birleşik Metal-İş Stands Alongside
Members of the Dev Sağlık-İş Union have commenced a march from Istanbul to Ankara, demanding improved living conditions and the payment of their rightful wages, thereby becoming a symbol of the struggle of public sector workers across Turkey. In this critical period, Birleşik Metal-İş, one of Turkey's leading labor unions, has declared its unreserved support.
A statement released on the union's social media accounts read, "As metalworkers, we stand with the health and social service workers who are members of Dev Sağlık-İş, who have started a march from Istanbul to Ankara to receive their rightful earnings, and with all public sector workers!"
Özkan Atar and Birleşik Metal-İş Delegation Join Press Conference
The support was not merely verbal but also demonstrated through direct action. Özkan Atar, DİSK Vice President and President of Birleşik Metal-İş, along with a large delegation comprising branch executives, members, and experts, attended the press conference held by the Dev Sağlık-İş Union in front of Taksim Training and Research Hospital. This participation underscored Birleşik Metal-İş's determination in advocating for public sector workers' rights and the robust solidarity within the DİSK confederation.
The Birleşik Metal-İş delegation attending the press conference emphasized their support for the demands and current situation of health and social service workers, as well as public sector workers in general. The union stated in its declaration that the struggle of public sector workers would be a gain not just for themselves but for all laborers.
The statement concluded with a powerful message reflecting the unity and spirit of solidarity within the working class: "Public sector workers will win! We will all win!" This slogan reinforced the determination of public sector workers and laborers in general to have their legitimate demands met. Birleşik Metal-İş's support also highlighted the combined strength of labor unions ahead of ongoing collective bargaining negotiations for public sector workers.
