Arab League Issues Joint Call in Istanbul: Halt Israeli Attacks, Secure Ceasefire

ISTANBUL – The foreign ministers of the Arab League, convened in Istanbul, condemned Israel's attacks on Iran. The ministers called for increased international efforts to secure a ceasefire and preserve regional stability.

ISTANBUL – The foreign ministers of the Arab League, following their extraordinary meeting in Istanbul, issued a joint statement condemning Israel's attacks on Iran and calling for an immediate end to regional tensions and the establishment of a ceasefire.

The statement emphasized that Israel's attacks on nuclear facilities and military targets in Iran on June 13 constituted "a clear assault on the sovereignty of a United Nations member state." It was stated that these actions seriously threaten regional peace and security, and a call for restraint was made to all parties.

It was reported that numerous high-ranking military officials and nuclear scientists lost their lives in the attacks in Iran, and the civilian death toll reached 224. In Iran's ballistic missile retaliation against Israel, 25 people died, and thousands were injured.

The Arab League statement stressed that "the international community must stand against Israel's aggressive policies and act to implement international law." Furthermore, it was stated that peace could only be achieved through diplomacy and within the framework of UN resolutions.

According to the communiqué, for a comprehensive ceasefire, the cessation of Israeli attacks in Gaza, an end to illegal practices in the West Bank, and the delivery of sustainable humanitarian aid to the region were highlighted as essential conditions. The implementation of the Arab Peace Initiative and the revitalization of the two-state solution vision were also included in the call.

The statement also emphasized the need to stop attacks on nuclear facilities and to declare the Middle East a nuclear-weapon-free zone. International cooperation was called for to protect the security of waterways and prevent the disruption of energy supply.

Meanwhile, hosted by Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan, the 51st Session of the Islamic Cooperation Organization (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) will be held in Istanbul on June 21-22 with the theme "OIC in a Transforming World."
